Once again, I've been to the movies which means I have another review. Today I will be talking about "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters." As usual I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. For those of you unfamiliar with this film, here is the trailer:
- Be prepared to laugh a lot. I should mention, however, that most of the laughter will happen when you aren't supposed to.
- There are some pretty nifty props in this movie. The sets and costumes looked great!
- The performances by Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton, and Thomas Mann were pretty decent given the way their characters were written.
- This movie is a good time, mostly because you will be laughing about how bad it is but it still is a good time.
The Bad:
- This movie is ridiculous in every sense of the word. Be prepared to not buy anything that's going on at all. I would argue that this is mostly due to the writing.
- As far as acting went, as I mentioned above, most of the cast did a fairly decent job considering the writing. The one major exception to this is Pihla Viitala who was so terrible that her character stuck out like a sore thumb.
- The opening credits managed to drag on way longer than they needed to. I get that it was done to be stylish but they could have easily chopped about half of it.
- Finally, the 3D was really bad. It mostly consisted of either weapons or body parts flying out at the screen at the audience. I have said it before and I'll say it again, 3D is meant to put the audience in the world of the movie. 3D is not for having random things fly out at the audience as it can cause major headaches.
The Verdict:
This is a terrible movie in every sense of the word. That being said, I had fun watching it. It is so rare that I come across a movie that is so incredibly stupid and so incredibly "what the F" that it becomes hilarious! I can't responsibly recommend that you spend money to go see it if you are expecting a good movie. However, if you are hosting a bad movie night or if you want to go to the theater for a good laugh, then I'd say go for it. If you are looking for a good movie, however, I'd recommend you go see "Zero Dark Thirty", "Silver Linings Playbook," "Mama", "Les Miserables", or "Django Unchained" if those are still playing.
Thanks for reading everyone!! As usual, feel free to leave a comment!
