i have two very different movies to review. I will be reviewing "The Lion King" which is a remake of the beloved Disney classic and "Midsommar" which is the next horror film by Ari Aster who is the director of "Hereditary." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Lets start with "Midsommar." Here is the trailer:
- Visually, the movie is stunning. There are a lot of fantastic costumes and bright colors which make the movie beautiful to watch.
- The cinematography is amazing, there are some really clever shots that really contribute to the storytelling.
- This movie has one of the single most uncomfortably funny scenes I have seen in any movie in a long time.
- I love the fact that this is a horror movie that takes place largely in the daylight. It is a fresh concept that works surprisingly well.
- The ending of the movie is satisfying in a really odd way.
- There are points of this movie that are paced quite slowly.
- There really aren't any characters written in a way that makes the audience root for them. It would be easier to be invested in it if there was one character worth caring about.
"Midsommar" is one of the most beautiful horror movies I have ever watched. It is a very weird and artsy horror movie that definitely isn't for everybody but I found that I got a lot of enjoyment out of it.
It is time to move on to "The Lion King." Here is the trailer:
- Visually, this movie looks amazing.
- The cast is absolutely perfect for all of their roles. This is especially the case for Donald Glover, Beyonce, John Oliver, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and of course James Earl Jones.
- The songs are incredible. They are sung beautifully and really capture the same feeling they did in the 90s.
- There are some really good laugh out loud moments as there were in the original.
- This movie is paced wonderfully. It is about half an hour longer than the original movie but it doesn't feel like it.
- The villain in this movie doesn't come off quite as intimidating as he did in the original. This is not the fault of the voice actor but rather a symptom of technological limits.
- Certain musical numbers lack the visual flair they had in the original movie.
"The Lion King" is a fun remake that will give you a potent shot of nostalgia. While it doesn't add much new to the story, it is a really good way to re-experience this classic. I would maybe advise trying not to compare it too hard to the original for maximum enjoyment but I would definitely recommend seeing it.
Thanks for reading everyone!! As usual, feel free to leave a comment as I enjoy reading them! :)
