Last week, I reviewed an action movie. This week, I will be continuing this pattern by reviewing 2 action movies. I am, of course, referring to "Pompeii" and "3 Days to Kill." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Time to get started with "3 Days to Kill." For those of you unfamiliar with this, here is the trailer:
- While there may be way fewer actions scenes than one would think, the action scenes that were there were done really well.
- The actors tried really hard to salvage this movie. They did what they could considering what they had to work with.
The Bad:
- As I mentioned above, the marketing is somewhat deceptive here. This is marketed as an action movie but there are not that many action scenes. The movie is largely a really bad family drama.
- The story was unnecessarily convoluted which makes this even harder to sit through.
- The father/daughter relationship that the movie focuses on isn't believable at all. I didn't buy anything that was going on with that.
- Some of the dialogue was horrendous. It wasn't so bad that it was comical but it was still bad enough that you will roll your eyes.
- The humor really didn't work for me. They made many attempts at humor but I only laughed once but not particularly hard.
- One of the biggest problems was that the antagonists were not compelling at all. They never presented any real danger as they were really hard to take seriously.
The Verdict:
"3 Days To Kill" has a couple good action scenes but ultimately is an uninteresting family drama that likely bore you. I would say skip this one as it will be a gigantic waste of your money and time.
It's time to move on to "Pompeii." For those of you unfamiliar with this one, here is the trailer:
- The first half of the movie was watchable. The story was kind of interesting at that point.
- The actors really tried their best to do what they could with the material they were given.
- The actions scenes in the first half of the movie were pretty fantastic.
The Bad:
- The second half of the movie fell right off a cliff. The story went from kind of interesting to extremely dull and very stupid. All logic goes out the window and it becomes really hard not to mentally check out.
- The dialogue in this movie was so bad. It was so bad that several dramatic parts of the movie turned comical.
- The 3D started out ok but then became so obnoxious once the volcano erupted (not a spoiler as it is in the trailer) as stuff keeps flying in the audience's face.
- The relationship between the leading man and leading woman felt so forced that I couldn't buy any of it. They had no chemistry whatsoever.
- The ending was so stupid, cheesy, over the top, and melodramatic endings I have seen in a while and it will definitely leave you feeling unsatisfied.
The Verdict:
"Pompeii" starts out rather promising but then turns very very bad. I cannot, in good conscience, recommend this to anyone. If you are really desperate to see this, I would wait until it is on Netflix but that is even pushing it as the movie blows harder than the volcano.
Thanks for reading everyone!! Feel free to leave a comment but please be advised that if you are going to read potential comments that there may be spoilers.
