I have two exciting movies to review today. I will be reviewing "The Jungle Book" which is Disney's latest live action adaptation of one of their animated classics. I will also be reviewing "Barbershop: The Next Cut" which is a sequel to the well liked "Barbershop" franchise. Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Lets get this started with "Barbershop: The Next Cut." Here is the trailer
- The cast is excellent. Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, and Eve in particular really shine. The entire cast has incredible chemistry with each other.
- There are some really good laughs in this movie.
- There are some very good heartfelt moments that really make the audience feel for these characters.
- The themes in this story are very relevant to modern times.
- There is a major plot point involving the characters played by Common and Nicki Minaj that feels extraneous and pretty pointless. This is not the fault of Minaj or Common but rather the writers.
- While there are a lot of good jokes, there are a good handful that completely miss the mark for a variety of reasons.
"Barbershop: The Next Cut" may not be perfect but it has a lot going for it. It makes you feel as if you are hanging out with these people in this barbershop for a couple of hours and I enjoyed that. I'd say this is worth seeing. This one could be seen in theaters but it would also make a nice rental.
Lets move on to "The Jungle Book." Here is the trailer:
- The voice acting is excellent. Having voice actors do the dialogue for CGI animals is always a big gamble but it really paid off here.
- Visually, this movie is absolutely stunning. Everything is a treat for the eyes from the set to the animals themselves.
- The script is written in such a way that it is honors the original movie but it deviates in the right places in order to make the movie work in a live action scenario.
- The action scenes are absolutely fantastic. They are well choreographed and exciting.
- There are some great moments of comic relief.
- There are some truly heartwarming moments.
- They included a couple songs in the movie that are "Jungle Book" classics. One worked. The other felt very forced and awkward and I could have done without it.
"The Jungle Book" is a fantastic live action adaptation of the Disney animated classic. It has great action, lots of humor and heart, and it is stunning visually. I absolutely recommend seeing this in theaters. It is truly worth the big screen experience.
Thanks for reading everyone! As usual, feel free to leave a comment but please be advised that if you read any potential comments that spoilers may be present.
