I have another review ready! Today I will be reviewing "Independence Day: Resurgence" and "Central Intelligence." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Lets start with "Central Intelligence." Here is the trailer:
- Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart have incredible chemistry. I believed every interaction that they had.
- This movie has a number of really funny jokes. I found myself in tears laughing at certain points.
- I really liked the soundtrack in this movie.
- This movie is very well paced and actually feels shorter than it actually is.
- While most of the jokes land, there are some noticeable misses for certain jokes for a variety of reasons.
- This script really doesn't attempt to make any sense at all which may bother some viewers.
"Central Intelligence" is a surprisingly funny movie. It isn't perfect but I found myself laughing way harder than I thought I would. If you are looking for a good time that doesn't involve much thinking, definitely check this out.
Lets move on to "Independence Day: Resurgence." Here is the trailer:
- I am so glad they brought Jeff Goldblum back. He is so likeable and charismatic. He makes this movie much easier to sit through.
- The action sequences are awesome. This movie brings the spectacle in a big way.
- Visually, the movie is absolutely stunning.
- The new cast is absolutely awful. Liam Hemsworth in particular does not make a for a good leading role. He has all of the charisma and likeability of a rock.
- Between the action sequences, the pacing feels really slow.
- There are several attempts at romance between various characters and none of them work. This is largely because nobody that they are pairing have any chemistry whatsoever.
- The plot is completely nonsensical. I know that the original "Independence Day" wasn't known for plot but I feel like they should have at least pretended to try and have a coherent story.
- Finally, the characters are written in such a way that they are completely one-dimensional and there really isn't any growth on the part of any of them which makes them kind of boring to watch.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" has spectacular visuals and awesome action that unfortunately feels undermined by some truly terrible writing and some unfortunate casting. If you are looking for a movie that is good at making things go boom then this is for you. If you are looking for anything else, stay far away from this one.
Thanks for reading everyone!! As usual, feel free to leave a comment but if you are going to read any potential comments then please be advised that spoilers may be present.
