Today I have two very different movies to review. I will be reviewing "Annabelle: Creation" and "The Hitman's Bodyguard." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Lets get started with "Annabelle: Creation." Here is the trailer:
- This movie manages to keep a really creepy atmosphere throughout.
- The jump scares are much less predictable than they usually are.
- There are some really unsettling and disturbing scenes but they didn't feel gratuitous.
- The acting is surprisingly good for a horror movie.
- The pacing in this movie is excellent. It manages to not be too fast paced (which would eliminate tension) but it doesn't drag on and on either.
- There are a lot of overused cliches and this is especially the case with really stupid characters. You will find yourself thinking "don't go in there" or "don't do that" throughout.
While "Annabelle: Creation" may not reinvent the wheel, it does a fantastic job of keeping the audience very on edge. This is a huge improvement over the last "Annabelle" movie and I highly recommend it.
Lets move on to "The Hitman's Bodyguard." Here is the trailer:
- While not all of the jokes land, the ones that do land hard.
- The cast is great. Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson have great chemistry. Salma Hayek is the one who really steals the show and she really makes the most of limited screen time.
- The action scenes are pretty cool to watch.
- As I mentioned earlier, not all of the jokes land. In fact, there are quite a few that fall flat.
- The ending of the movie is really predictable. I saw the ending coming from a mile away before the movie hit the halfway point
- Finally, the pacing is a bit rough. There are scenes that drag on a bit more than they should and with a movie like this there is pretty much no excuse for that.
"The Hitman's Bodyguard" may be somewhat rough around the edges but in the end is a fun action/comedy flick that is pretty enjoyable. This would not be a waste of a watch but it probably would work best as a rental or Netflix watch.
Thanks for reading everyone!! As usual, feel free to leave a comment but please be advised that if you read any potential comments that spoilers may be present.
