Welcome to my first movie review of 2019. Today I will be reviewing "Glass" which is the much anticipated sequel to "Unbreakable" and "Split" as well as "On the Basis of Sex" which is about the early parts of Ruth Bader Ginsburg's career. Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Lets start with "On the Basis of Sex." Here is the trailer:
- The cast of this movie is fantastic. Everyone is amazing but the person who steals the show is Felicity Jones.
- The pacing in this movie is hard to do with biopics.
- Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer have incredible chemistry.
- Finally, the ending of this movie is incredibly inspiring and will leave you feeling great as you leave the theater.
- This movie sticks to all of the standard cliche and convention of movies about underdogs. While it still manages to work, I can't help but feel like it could have been more.
"On the Basis of Sex" is an effective but flawed biopic that tells an incredible story that is surprisingly relevant today. I recommend seeing this.
It is time to move on to "Glass." Here is the trailer:
- James McAvoy and Samuel L. Jackson are absolutely phenomenal. Jackson is captivating as always and McAvoy gives what is easily the best performance of his career.
- Some of the supporting cast from the previous movies are back and with one major exception they work really well.
- The movie starts out quite strong and it hooks you really quickly.
- There are some interesting ideas throughout that will get audiences talking.
- Bruce Willis's character is completely wasted. He barely gets anything to do and feels more like a piece of furniture than a character.
- There is a particular subplot with a supporting cast member that feels somewhat problematic.
- This movie has some pretty severe pacing problems through about 1/3 of the movie. There is a long stretch that just drags on and on.
"Glass" is an ambitious movie with the pieces of a great movie but ultimately ends up disappointing due to quite a few issues with execution. I would recommend seeing this if you really loved "Unbreakable" and 'Split" but otherwise it probably won't do much for you.
Thanks for reading everyone! As usual, feel free to leave a comment but please note that if you read any potential comments that spoilers may be present.
