Today, I have three movies to review. I will be reviewing "Suburbicon," "Geostorm," and "The Snowman." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Lets get started with "The Snowman." Here is the trailer:
- not applicable
- The pacing in this movie is absolutely brutal. It feels so much longer than it actually is.
- There is some very poor acting in this movie. I'm going to excuse Michael Fassbender and Rebecca Ferguson from that but everyone else did not do very well.
- The third act really falls apart. A lot of the early problems would have been less problematic if the payoff were any good. Unfortunately, the third act finishes in such an anticlimactic way that it is really frustrating.
- Part of the fun of these movies is trying to figure out who the culprit is. Unfortunately in this case, it is pretty obvious from very early on.
- Finally, this is a movie that takes itself so seriously which doesn't work when so many inherently goofy things go down. From the killer randomly leaving snowmen about to the main character's name (which is, and I have to state that I am not making this up, Harry Hole).
"The Snowman" is an absolute mess of a movie in almost every way largely due to really shoddy writing. I can't recommend seeing this movie ever. It is a tremendous waste of time.
It is time to move on to "Geostorm." Here is the trailer:
- For the second time in this entry, I got nothing.
- For a movie with such a large budget, the visual effects are hilariously bad.
- This movie contains every single disaster movie cliche in the book and it will result in a lot of eye rolling.
- There is some really cringe worthy dialogue that nobody would ever actually say in real life in the situations that are presented in the movie.
- For a movie that is marketed so heavily as a disaster movie, there isn't a lot of disaster. It is mostly a bunch of really bad talking and it gets kind of boring.
- Finally, the big twist of the movie is something that audiences will easily see coming.
"Geostorm" is one of the most ridiculous yet boring movies that I have seen in a long time. Don't waste your time or money with this one. If you want to watch a disaster movie, I would suggest one of the many that have existed for a while.
Speaking of disasters, it is time to talk about "Suburbicon." Here is the trailer:
- Even though he doesn't get much screen time, Oscar Isaac really does make the most of it and his scenes are a delight to watch.
- One of the movie's biggest issues is that every major character is written in a way that makes them so unlikeable and impossible to root for.
- The big twist of the movie is easy to figure it out, then it is given away way too early on.
- There is an entire subplot about a very relevant and hot button issue that is pretty much swept aside as an afterthought and there is no real closure given to it at all.
- This movie has many moments that drag on for longer than they should.
"Suburbicon" shows so much potential at the beginning of the movie but then that potential goes away as it tends to fall flat on it's face over and over again until it ends. I absolutely do not recommend seeing this movie.
Thanks for reading everyone! As usual, feel free to leave a comment but please be advised that if you read any potential comments that spoilers may be present.
