I have a major review for you all today. I will be reviewing "Divergent" which is based off of an extremely popular book as well as the latest adventure from everyone's favorite puppets. I am, of course, referring to "Muppets Most Wanted." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. It is time to get this review rolling with "Muppets Most Wanted." Here is the trailer:
- As with the last "Muppets" movie, the songs are fantastic! They are catchy, funny, clever and will likely leave you dancing in your seat.
- They managed to use self-awareness in the right doses. Sometimes a movie will do that too much and it becomes distracting but it was used here enough but not too much.
- As is expected with "Muppets" there are some fantastic celebrity cameos!
- Ty Burell,Tina Fey and Ricky Gervais were fantastic in their roles. They may not have stood out as much as Jason Segel and Amy Adams in the last one but they worked regardless.
- I was worried that the new Muppet(Walter) from the last movie wasn't going to feel out of place with the absence of Jason Segel and Amy Adams but he fit right in here.
The Bad:
- I really wish that the story focused more on the core group of Muppets rather than the other characters involved. It would have been much more satisfying.
The Verdict:
While it may not be quite as awesome as the last "Muppets" movie, "Muppets Most Wanted" comes close and delivers everything that one could ever hope for in a "Muppets" movie. I'd recommend checking this out as it is lots of fun!
Time to move on to "Divergent." Here is the trailer:
- Shailene Woodley was perfectly cast here. I completely believed her throughout the entire movie.
- The Score (with a few exceptions) was well done. This comes as no surprise as the score was done by the legendary Hans Zimmer who has scored "The Lion King","The Dark Knight Trilogy", and many others.
- The action scenes were well coordinated which made them fun to watch.
The Bad:
- There was practically no chemistry between the main characters. I did not buy their relationship at all. It didn't feel like these people would legitimately want to have anything to do with each other.
- Theo James plays the male lead and he is just so robotic. I'm starting to wonder if there is a rule in Hollywood that all male leads in a young adult fantasy novel adaptation have to have no personality.
- The biggest problem for me is the pacing. The movie ended on an interesting note but the majority of the movie moves more slowly than a turtle with a broken leg. I think that part of this is because the majority of the movie focuses on the training of the main character and it just isn't exciting. This aspect of the movie should have definitely been condensed.
- I really hate it when pop songs(no matter how good they may be) pop up at so many dramatic moments in the movie. I think that it is incredibly distracting and it makes the movie much cheesier than it needs to be.
The Verdict:
Ultimately, "Divergent" isn't terrible but it struggles to be interesting until the very end. I would say that this one might be worth watching on Netflix but is not really worth the full price of a movie ticket.
