I have two movies to review for you guys today. I will be reviewing "I, Frankenstein" and "The Nut Job" I actually have nothing else to say about these ones which should give you a pretty good idea about how I felt about them but more on that later. Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. It is time to start this train of pain with "The Nut Job." Here is the trailer:
- The animation wasn't the worst I've ever seen...
The Bad:
- I really need people to stop using "Gangnam Style" in things. This movie uses it constantly and it has gotten super old and it is no longer funny. STOP USING IT!
- I appreciate a good pun as much as the next person but it becomes eye-roll inducing when they are happening constantly.
- The humor in general was very bad. They relied too heavily on toilet humor (fart jokes in particular). I have nothing against a bit of toilet humor but there is a point where it is just too much. The jokes that did not rely on toilet humor were also bad as they were so poorly timed that it just wasn't funny. I'm talking so unfunny that children probably wouldn't even find it that amusing.
- The voice cast did not really fit well with their characters. I am going to excuse Will Arnett from this but nobody else felt natural in these roles.
- The ending was felt incredibly forced and cliched.
- The movie was also longer than it needed to be. I felt as though they were stretching very little material much farther than they should. This is sad considering that the movie is pretty short.
- The biggest problem, however, is that there is not a single character worth rooting for. The main character is written in a way that it becomes impossible not to despise him for the entire movie. This applies to all the other characters to but to a lesser extent. It got to the point where I was actually rooting for every character to die.
The Verdict:
"The Nut Job" is easily one of the worst animated flicks that I have ever seen in my life. I doubt that even children will be able to get much amusement out of this. On top of that, it will be an excruciatingly painful experience for any adults that have to accompany them. I would absolutely skip this one and if I had my way all copies of this movie would be thrown into a volcano.
It is now time to move on to "I, Frankenstein." Here is the trailer:
- Yvonne Strahovski tried her best to give a half-decent performance and she did which is admirable considering what she had to work with.
The Bad:
- The pacing was not good. There were many parts that dragged and this resulted in a movie that felt significantly longer than it actually was.
- The dialogue was some of the worst I've heard in a long time. It wasn't bad in the way that makes you fall over laughing. It just made me cringe and roll my eyes.
- The acting was about as bad as it gets. I didn't believe a word anyone said (which is partially due to the script) and I didn't believe any of the emotions that anyone was attempting to portray.
- The sets looked incredibly fake and it was tough not to be distracted by it.
- The score was so over the top and out of place that it felt like I was watching a video game boss fight.
- While we are on the topic of video games, the special effects looked so cheap that I felt like I was watching a video game. I'm not, by any means, knocking video games but when it comes to movies you expect effects that are much better than that.
The Verdict:
"I, Frankenstein" is a complete waste of time. I cannot ethically recommend this movie to anyone.
