I have two very different movies to review. I will be reviewing "Halloween" and "Mid90s". Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Lets kick this off with "Mid90s." Here is the trailer:
- Across the board, the acting is really good.
- There is a scene in the third act of the movie that is directed really well. I can't go into more details for spoiler reasons.
- There is a lot of character progression throughout the movie which makes it more interesting to watch.
- This movie really captures a lot of things about the 90s in a very authentic way.
- The pacing is absolutely brutal. There are a lot of scenes that drag on way more than they need to.
- The ending of this movie is definitely too abrupt. The movie really needed to tie things together at the end and it doesn't do that at all.
"Mid90s" is a bit rough around the edges but ultimately ends up being a solid coming of age story due to some terrific performances and clever choices. I would say this one is worth a rental but also makes for a not bad theater experience.
Lets move on to "Halloween." Here is the trailer:
- Bringing back Jamie Lee Curtis is easily one of the best decisions anyone involved in this movie has made. She shows us why she is a horror icon. She really is the heart of this movie.
- There is a lot of suspense in this movie that builds up at an appropriate pace. This makes the film thrilling for audiences.
- The movie does not have too many jump scares and the ones that they do have are generally timed quite nicely.
- The plot does some really clever things to subvert a genre that can get stale if not executed properly.
- There are great moments of comic relief that are well timed and well needed.
- The movie makes one think that the character of Michael Myers will be explored in more depth but then it never does. I feel like follow through on this could have made for a stronger movie.
"Halloween" is a terrific return to form for a franchise that seemed to be previously running out of gas. It goes back to what made the original movie great while still playing around with enough that it feels fresh. I absolutely recommend seeing this in theaters!
Thank you for reading everyone!! As usual, feel free to leave a comment but please be advised that if you read any potential comments that spoilers may be present.
