I have three very different movies to review today. I will be reviewing "Good Boys, "Ready or Not", and "Good Boys." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. It is time to start with "The Kitchen." Here is the trailer:
- Melissa McCarthy, Tiffany Haddish, and Elisabeth Moss give fantastic performances in this and they really do carry this entire movie.
- The acting of everyone who is not the three ladies mentioned above is rough. A lot of the performances felt really cartoonish and unbelievable.
- This movie has some major pacing issues, it feels about an hour longer than it should.
- There are attempts at major twists in this movie, all of these are super predictable and some of them don't feel like they authentically serve the narrative.
- The soundtrack is extremely heavy handed to the point where I would consider it distracting.
- Finally, there is a lot of really cringe worthy dialogue.
"The Kitchen" is a movie with good performances from it's leads and some good ideas but it ultimately fails on execution in just about every way possible. I would say skip this one.
Lets move on to "Ready or Not." Here is the trailer:
- The acting in this movie is surprisingly well done. In particular, Samara Weaving who plays the main character shows off a range of emotions exceptionally and has the perfect scream for a movie like this.
- The pacing in this movie is fantastic. No scenes feel like they are dragging at any point.
- There are a lot of really fun action scenes that will have you at the edge of your seat.
- The soundtrack is absolutely incredible and it really adds to the movie.
- Finally, as this movie is a dark comedy, it nails the most important aspect which is that this movie is quite funny and had me laughing throughout.
- This movie can be a bit on the predictable side.
"Ready or Not" absolutely nails it's dark humor and ridiculous premise. It is easily some of the most fun I've had at the movies all year and if you have a dark sense of humor I absolutely advise going to see this.
Lastly, let us talk about "Good Boys." Here is the trailer:
- This movie is paced really well, it feels a lot shorter than it actually is.
- The soundtrack is fantastic. Everything fits really well and is a joy to listen to.
- There are some surprising twists and turns which are delightful.
- There are some surprisingly well done emotional moments in the movie.
- Most importantly, this movie is incredibly funny and it had me laughing through the whole thing.
- Some of the humor can be a little repetitive. While it does work for the most part, this may wear some people's patience.
"Good Boys" is a surprisingly thoughtful but very funny and profane movie. It is so much fun and I absolutely recommend going to see it.
