I have another movie review ready! I will be reviewing "Bad Boys for Life", "Doolittle", "The Turning", and "Underwater." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. Let us start with "Underwater." Here is the trailer:
- I have to give Kristen Stewart credit for being the only one that actually seems to be trying to make this movie work.
- The pacing is horrendous. This is not a long movie but it certainly feels like it is going for a really long time.
- This movie relies heavily on jump scares that are cheap and predictable.
- The special effects look incredibly cheap. Visually, it looks like a video game.
- The plot (if you even want to call it that) is incredibly thin and nothing makes sense throughout.
- Finally, the characters are written in such a way that the audience doesn't really get to know anyone and it becomes difficult to become attached to/root for any of them.
"Underwater" is a pointless movie that attempts to be some kind of suspenseful thriller but fails at just about every turn. This movie is a complete waste of time and I can't recommend it to anyone.
It is time to move on to "The Turning." Here is the trailer:
- Nothing
- The acting in this movie is horrendous by every party involved. Everyone is far more wooden than any of the characters would be in these situations.
- The characters are all either incredibly dumb or super unlikeable and it makes it really difficult for the aufience to care about them.
- The movie relies on way too many cheap and predictable jump scares.
- The twist at the end is really unsatisfying.
- Finally the script for this movie feels incomplete. It ends in such an unsatisfying way that I felt like the writers got about halfway through writing this then decided to stop and the movie somehow got made anyways.
"The Turning" has such a promising premise ruined by a half-assed script and otherwise poor execution. I cannot recommend wasting any time on this nonsense.
It is time to move on to "Dolittle" Here is the trailer:
- A whole lot of nothing.
- This movie attempts to land a joke and absolutely none of them are funny.
- Visually, this movie is a mess. The CGI is really cheap looking and it can be quite jarring.
- Robert Downey Jr is an incredibly talented actor but his performance here is really bizarre. A lot of the problem is with the strange accent that he attempts to do throughout the entire movie.
- The pacing in this movie is awful. So many scenes drag on way longer than they should.
- The plot is so predictable and formulaic that you will pretty much call the entire thing well before the end of the movie.
- Finally, the main antagonist of the movie is so cartoonishly over the top that it becomes impossible to take him seriously in any way.
"Dolittle" is one of those movies that really doesn't seem to be able to justify it's existence. If a studio is going to release a movie that nobody asked for, it should at least make something fun or magical or worth watching for any reason and this movie does not succeed at any of those things. I would say skip this one.
Lastly, let us talk about "Bad Boys for Life." Here is the trailer:
- The cast is fantastic. I genuinely forgot how funny Martin Lawrence can be. I also really loved the new characters played by Alexander Ludwig, Charles Melton, and Vanessa Hudgens.
- There are a lot of fun action sequences throughout the movie.
- This movie has a lot of humor and I definitely laughed out loud quite a lot.
- This movie is fast paced and it feels a lot shorter than it actually is.
- While there is not a lot in the way of special effects, the ones that were there looked really cheap.
- There are a lot of things that make no sense. This is especially the case in the third act where logic definitely falls off a cliff hard.
"Bad Boys for Life" is absolutely what I would describe as a hot mess but I would be lying if I said I wasn't entertained by it. This is the type of movie that I would recommend if you are looking to turn your brain off for a couple hours and shove popcorn in your face. If you are looking for anything more than that, I would not recommend it.
Thank you for reading everyone! As usual feel free to leave a comment!!
