Today I will be reviewing "Knives Out" and "Jumanji: The Next Level." Before I get started, I'd like to give a shoutout to the Free Gamer's Alliance YouTube channel. Their videos cover everything from walkthroughs, glitches, easter eggs, and various amusing video game related content, all of which is delivered with some colorful commentary while they have buckets of fun doing it. It is time to start with "Knives Out." Here is the trailer:
- The cast is incredible. There is so much talent here and everyone is bringing their A game. Daniel Craig, Ana De Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, and Chris Evans in particular all steal the show.
- This movie has a great sense of humor. Some perfectly timed humor really meshes well with the tension created.
- This movie has a lot to say and it isn't subtle about it. It deals with a lot of very current topics and themes brilliantly.
- The characters are really easy for the audience to get attached to despite the fact that most of them are terrible people in one way or another. It takes especially good writing to pull that off.
- This movie will have audiences guessing throughout.
- This movie is incredibly well paced and it never feels like it is dragging at any point.
- There are a lot of really fun twists and turns that the audience won't see coming.
- I honestly can't think of anything.
"Knives Out" is a masterful whodunnit that works on pretty much every level. It is the definition of a crowd pleaser and is ultimately one of the freshest movies of the year. I absolutely recommend going to see this.
Finally, lets talk about "Jumanji: The Next Level." Here is the trailer:
- While there may not be as many laughs as the last movie, there are still a number of funny moments.
- The cast is clearly all having fun with their roles and it is a joy to watch that. In particular, I really enjoyed watching Awkwafina and Jack Black.
- There are definitely some thrilling action scenes that are well choreographed and enjoyable to watch.
- The ending of this movie leaves the story in a very interesting place. I am interested in seeing where it goes from here.
- The beginning of this movie is rough. It is incredibly depressing and slow.
- The motivation of the character that sets these events in motion feels a bit weak and lazy.
- While there are a number of jokes that work well, there are quite a number of them that fall flat thanks to poor timing or lazy writing.
"Jumanji: The Next Level" comes nowhere close to reaching the entertainment value its predecessor but it still manages to be quite watchable thanks to some great action sequences and a likeable cast. This is a good choice to see in theaters but is also a good choice to wait to be available on streaming services.
